Panel Sensor

The “Panel Sensor” is the primary DiyaStar® component that decides if Solar Power is adequate. It has a configurable setting which allows the user to define their acceptable level of required illumination. This is a small Switching Circuit that is placed near the Solar Panel that allows it to sense if adequae illumination exists or not.

There are two components: (1) is the Circuit is called the PV Sense and (2) is a 5W Solar Panel which is called the PV Sensor. Both together is called as the Panel Sensor. The PV Sense automatically cuts off power if the 5W PV panel which acts as a light sensor does not receive adequate solar insolation. There are two variants :-

(a) Panel Sensor 7 Amps : This is the basic model and costs Rs 1,035/- including the 5W Solar Sensor Panel

(b) Panel Sensor 70 Amps : This is the basic model and costs Rs 1,490/- including the 5W Solar Sensor Panel

Normally for any installation only one (either 7 amps or 70 amps) of these will be required for fan or light circuit. Which means that normally, for homes where both light and fans are being powered by DiyaStar, two of these would be required, one for Lights circuit and the other for the Fans circuit. The model will depend on total load of the installation.

The standard Panel Sensor (DSPS7A) can operate a maximum of 7 to 10 Amps on a distributed mode. At 12V DC, it can drive about 7 to 8 Nos of 12W lamps or equivalent. For higher Amperage, the same Panel Sensor is used; however, an additional relay of higher amperage is added as an extension. A 70 Amp capacity is given in the picture on the left.

Operating Principle.

There are two relays. The solar power relay becomes energized (active) the moment if the PV Sensor Panel from the roof top is delivering power. The moment the roof top Solar Sensor Panel cuts out, so does this relay which moves the live circuit to the AC to DC grid power automatically.

Options for Deployment

The PV Sense is boxed (IP-20) and can be placed behind the PV Sensor Panel. See below in a demonstration model where the Main Panel is horizontal and the PV Sensor Panel is vertical and the PV Sense is mounted on its rear.

However, due to vagaries of climate and weather, it may be better to site these in the Staircase Room for longevity of the equipment.

However, it may also make sense to place all the switchers in a Distribution Box and provide DiyaStar Output Power to all the rooms. In this case, the Square Models come in useful since they may be mount on DIN Rails...
